Safety

A letter from the director

April 2011

Is Tijuana a safe place to live? This is a question we have heard many times over the last few years. I have been blessed to live in Tijuana for over eight years and have had opportunity to watch the city go through both joy-filled and hard times. First of all, I want readers to understand that Baja Bible staff, the ministries we partner with, and I am concerned for the well being of those who come to visit or live on campus. I would not hesitate to close our doors if the situation were extremely dangerous. Your sons and daughters--our students--are more important than having a successful program.

So what is really happening in Tijuana? Media reports displaying violence and fighting in Mexico do not report that criminals are fighting amongst themselves or with law enforcement. The violence has been aimed at members of drug trafficking organizations, the military, criminal justice officials and journalists, not tourists or average folk. The risk factor of the average person living in Tijuana is low and ministries have not been the target of crimes. Because of this fact, I do not feel it unwise to live in Tijuana or host students and missions trips on our campus.
