Student FAQ

What sort of identification do I need ?

A valid passport is required. Also bring your drivers license, if you have one.

Can I bring my car?

Due to limited parking, students are not allowed to bring vehicles to Baja Bible School. Taxis are inexpensive and the bus system is good. We will provide students with a map of Tijuana and students will have opportunities to learn the public transportation system.

Do I have to know Spanish?

Every bit of Spanish the students know before will help but is not necessary for attending Baja Bible School. A willingness to learn the language will enhance the students’ experience here. The first two weeks of classes will include an introduction to the culture and language. Helpful language learning tools include: an audio recorder, a Spanish Bible, the book 501 Spanish Verbs, and a small Spanish/English dictionary. And of course, one of the best ways to learn the language is to spend time with native speakers of Spanish here in Tijuana.

Should I bring my computer?

Should I bring my computer? Laptops are useful on campus but there is limited space in the dorm rooms for desktop computers. Wireless internet is available on campus and in several coffee shops nearby. Please read the Community Living page to understand our operating philosophy on community living and entertainment/computer use.

Are there laundry facilities on campus?

There are no laundry facilities available to students on campus. There are several “lavaderías” (laundrymats) close by that students may use. One load of laundry costs about $2.50, so budget accordingly.

Will my cell phone work in Tijuana?

Many cell phone plans pick up a U.S. signal on campus but coverage is typically limited to areas close to the border.

How much spending money should I bring?

Students are responsible to pay for any public transportation they use (a taxi ride from the Castillo to the border line generally costs $6.00) and laundry. All meals are covered under our meal plan. Any other outings or personal entertainment should also be considered when planning how much to bring.

Can I work while I’m attending Baja Bible?

If you are not a Mexican citizen, attaining a visa for work during your eight months here is extremely difficult. We recommend that you take advantage of the undistracted time here to invest in your studies and in the people around you.

What about health insurance?

Medical coverage for students attending is strongly advised. Baja has no medical treatment facilities on campus and does not supply student medical insurance. Students will be required to sign a medical waiver form if they do not have medical insurance.  In case of emergency, there are multiple hospitals nearby.

What sort of clothes should I bring?

The weather here is similar to that of San Diego with the temperatures increasing as you head east. Bring warmer clothing for the winter months--it can be in the 50s during the day and close to freezing some nights.  Also bring adequate bedding as the dorms are insulated but not heated. Please also note that you will be representing your country, this school, and Christ so pack modest clothing.
