Our Needs
Whether you have a weekend or a month, we regularly have volunteers come stay with us in our small community on campus.
Volunteer Needs (January 2010):
Surface/grout walkways, landscaping, and concrete work.
Kitchen: install serving areas/cabinets.
Carpentry: construct basic dorm room furniture (shelves and small desks), shelves and seating in Tower/Library area.
Landscaping: work on pathways, soil development, repair retaining walls, planting groundcover.
Plumbing: install fixed propane tank and distribution lines, possibly install grey water system, perform small repairs and install solar water heater
Waterproofing: dig around foundations/planters in vulnerable places and work on waterproofing.
Stucco dorm building and two small houses.
Decorate/arrange common areas.
Prune date palms and agave plants on campus.
Materials and Furniture Needs:
Good twin matresses with or without boxspring for dorms (we have very few good mattresses for students)
Shop Vac
Couches in good condition, matching sets if possible (we have several but most are in poor condition)
Solar panel system for facility (electricity here is 30 cents/kWh)
Pavers/flagstone for walkways on property
Park benches for property
Grey water treatment systems and permanent irrigation system (drip hoses or other)
Succulent plants for grounds (in the Spring)
Mulch
Book and utility shelves
New toilets (1.6 gallon flush)
